Yesterday we talked about personal growth – going beyond the “comfortable” and expanding your horizons to take more risks, learn something new, and overcoming your fear of failure. Today, we offer three more ways to jump start your personal growth:

1. Get focused. Many of us dream big, but sometimes we have so many things we want to do that we try to accomplish too much at one time. Instead, focus on one goal and give it all of your attention. Years worth of clutter can’t be tackled in one day, but by concentrating on one corner of a room or one closet at a time, you can make steady progress toward to your goal of an organized home.

2. Forgive and move on. Sometimes we are held back by our inability to forgive someone who has hurt us, or forgive ourselves for mistakes we’ve made in the past. Ironically, the pain we feel from these past transgressions won’t dissipate until we’ve acknowledged it, offered forgiveness, and moved on. Your willingness to forgive is a true sign of personal growth because it shows that you are strong enough to not only accept mistakes as learning experiences, but also to overcome them. This includes forgiving yourself if your home has become less than what you want it to be!

3. Be gracious and optimistic. It’s super easy to come up with a list of complaints and grievances. Too often, we grumble about these problems and let our mood follow down the road of negativity and dissatisfaction. Personal growth requires just the opposite. We have to appreciate what is and be thankful for what we have. Choose to be positive and focus on the best things in your life, and your mood will lighten. Optimism and hope reveal so many more possibilities than cynicism and doubt! The glad really is half full!

Life is most definitely challenging but your success and happiness will be determined by how you respond when things aren’t going like you’d hope. Only you can make things happen; only you can fulfill your purpose. Focus on personal growth and you’ll find that you really do have it in you to achieve the life you want to live.
