What’s Your Vision for 2013?

VisionAs we begin another year, it is not unusual to take a moment to reflect on the previous year. We did just that!

Come To Order proudly celebrates its 8th year of business in 2013 and over the years, we have learned, with you, that clutter and organizing is never just about the stuff. This year we will continue to provide some great advice but we hope to shed some light on organizing on a deeper, more meaningful level. We hope you will enjoy this journey with us…

Vision… while some see another sunrise, others see art at work.

What do you see when you look around your space? Is it a room that has a few too many things crowded inside? Is it conducive to getting things done? Is it relaxing after a hard day at work? Is it everything you want it to be???

If you could wave a magic wand, what would you want your space to look like? How would it function? More importantly, how would it feel?

January is National Get Organized Month, so with that theme in mind, I encourage you to take time this month to create a vision for your space. You may even go so far as to create a vision board so that you can stay focused on what you are trying to achieve.

For example, what’s your vision for an organized desk or office? No piles of paper on the desk or floor? A file system that’s easy to use? Check out our piece last spring in BH&G STORAGE Magazine “Conquer Paper Pileup” for some great ideas. You can even set up automatic bill pay to reduce paper shuffling and make sure you are never late in paying a bill.

Do you envision a safe home and family that is prepared to withstand adversity? Organize an emergency survival kit with enough food and water to last three days. Make sure your insurance coverage is up-to-date and you have a full inventory of personal belongings and valuables. Scan your family photos so you can recover them should your prints get lost or destroyed.

Maybe your vision for 2013 is to live with simplicity and within your means. You can get your finances in order by updating your budget and tracking your spending. Another way to bring simplicity and order to your home is to clean out storage areas and donate items that are in good condition but you don’t need.

Decluttering can be a challenge, but if you use my SIMPLE methodology, you’ll discover how to create a well-ordered home in just 15 minutes. In the Spring 2013 edition of STORAGE Magazine by Better Homes and Gardens, read “Storage Doctor: Fix It Fast” to learn how to implement each step of this organizing method:

S: Sort like with like.
I: Identify what to keep.
M: Make a home for it.
P: Put it in containers.
L: Label it.
E: Establish a routine.

Use this strategy in each area of your home, and you’ll find you do have what it takes to accomplish your organizing goals!

Organizing doesn’t start with putting things in boxes. It really has to begin with a clear vision of how you want to use your space and what you want from it. Do you need help creating or reaching your vision? Give us a call so we can get you started on your way!
